adjectives (ad - ject - ives)

Adjectives can be used to modify a noun or pronoun.
They describe the size, color, or quality of something.

Examples (ex - am - ple)

An adjective can be placed before a noun:

Please carry that green chair over to me. (color)

What a terrible person she is for killing her own sister. (quality)

A large man walked up to me and asked me for directions. (size)

A compound adjective is formed by combining two or more words into a
single descriptive unit.

The police officer was well-informed.

She did a first-class job and so I promoted her.

The woman carried a 10-gallon tank of water up the stairs.

The adjective can follow after a verb: (complement adjective)

My mother was very happy to hear that she was going to be a grandmother. (happy mother)

My dog is old and hops around on three legs. (old dog)

My younger brother is very angry about his car being stolen. (angry brother)
