        has brown-black marked plumage, and a black chest and eyestripe in the 
        male. In diet it is omnivorous, feeding on insects and their larvae in 
        spring and summer, and on grain in winter.    The sparrow 
        is inconspicuous, intelligent, and adaptable, with a cheery chirp and 
        untidy nesting habits, using any scrap materials at hand to build its
